Community Engagement & Charity Outreach 2018/19
This past semester the club got involved with the Madras coaching scheme, with team players offering coaching to students from Madras high school. This has been excellent coaching experience and has allowed players to further improve the skills of their own and log hours onto the new volunteering portal. This took place on Thursday afternoons, with Jess, Sarah and Harmony all giving their time to provide a facilitating and fun environment for the students. We look to continue with this in semester 2.
We have been in close contact with members from Badminton Scotland with respect to organising some volunteering opportunities for this coming semester. In particular, the Regional Development Officer for Badminton Scotland, Jane Russel, has been very supportive. Earlier in the semester we hosted Jane for a meeting and tour of our facilities with our committee. Furthermore, the Assistant Director of Sport at the University also joined us for this. We hope to further build on this relationship in semester 2 and future academic years to come. This process has already begun as we are currently in discussions regarding coaching in local primary schools. Jane has also been incredibly helpful in aiding the club as it works towards the Badminton Scotland's Shuttlemark Accreditation Bronze Award.
Finally, the club ended the semester by putting together a collection of toys and Christmas gifts to be donated to Ninewells Hospital, Dundee.
