To prospective students, current students and everyone else we are excited that you've made it to our website!
The University of St Andrews Badminton Club is one of the largest clubs within the Athletic Union.
We have 5 sessions per week and cater for a wide range of abilities from 'performance' level play to 'social' level play.
We proudly enter 2 mixed teams into BUCS leagues to compete in the SSS divisions. Last year (2018/19) both teams won their respective divisions meaning they have both been promoted into a higher league in BUCS, with the 1st team now in the highest division possible. and We also enter a team into the Dundee Area Badminton Association (DABA) league which is a doubles only league.
Our teams attend team only training sessions coached by ex-Scotland Commonwealth gold medal winning player and Commonwealth bronze medal winning coach, Dan Travers.
Through our committee and members, past and present, we boast excellent relationships with BADMINTONscotland - the national governing body for badminton in Scotland, and Scottish Student Sport - the co-ordinating body for all student sport and physical activity in Scotland. This has enabled us to get involved in gaining coaching qualifications and reaching out further into the community by guiding a club set up scheme in Tayside & Fife colleges. Last year St Andrews became the first university in Scotland to achieve the Bronze Shuttlemark award which we are very pleased about.
Throughout the year members of our club will have plenty of opportunity to get involved in playing, whether it is on a social play only basis or representing the University, socials and tournaments. We host our annual club championship singles tournament in the first semester, in which players aim to win and have their name engraved on the club trophy - going down in club history as a champion. In Addition to this, badminton became the Most Improved club in St Andrews in 2019.
